19th Century Sightings

YetiThe first documented sighting of the Yeti was in 1832 by B. H. Hodgson in northen Nepal.  While exploring, Hodgson's guides spotted a bipedal creature that was tall and covered with long dark hair.  The creature fled in fear.  Although Hodgson did not see the creature, he assumed that it was an orangutan.

In 1889, English explorer Lawrence Wadell writes about strange footprints in his book "Among the Himalayas".  His guide describes the creature that left the footprints.  Wadell had heard stories of bipedal creatures that were similar in appearance to apes.  After interviewing many witnesses, nobody could give an authentic recount.  Wadell then concluded that the footprints must have been made by a bear.
